My mom’s friend Spencer passed away today and our home is sad. I never knew him, but I know he did amazing, important work. You should watch this video.

Stuff like this… I mean, it’s an ascetically pleasing graphic and everything but I’m really not that cynical about the world and I’m definitely not that cynical about the role of journalism. We had two speakers in class the other day and they were all “headlines! think in headlines!” and I just felt like that was such a cynical way of looking at journalism. I mean, I think that it’s an incredibly noble career that is just as much about crafting stories as it is about telling them. It’s not about headlines, though. Never about headlines.

I get way, way too excited about alternative story forms.

I worry a lot about next year. Maybe that’s silly; we still have two full issues to finish and a whole quarter of school to not screw up. But next year will be nine new issues where I have to think of things and be responsible and not leave the room all the time and solve interpersonal problems and seem like an authority figure and not screw everything up while making important changes and making the paper better and making awards people love us but not over-commercializing our journalistic process AHHHHHHH.

CSPA. Full of amazingness but also lots of inter-staff jealousy. I feel like there’s a natural balance to these things when you have that many publications people in one space.
